Gimme Ginger & Lemongrass!!

Not only is Asian Cuisine, and particularly Sushi, absolutely delicious, now you can also have a little extra helping knowing that some of the ingredients are also very good for your body and general well-being.

Two ingredients often found in Asian Cuisine are the bitingly tasty slivers of pickled ginger and the intensely aromatic flavour of fresh Lemongrass. The ginger is used in Sushi as a palate cleanser between sushi courses and Lemongrass appears in a large variety of Korean and Thai dishes.

Here are just a few samples of the greatness of these two humble ingredients:

Ginger
Pickled Ginger has powerful anti-bacterial functions and may also act as a breath freshener.
It contains a phytochemical called zingerone which helps deactivate free radicals that cause tissue damage.
Chemicals in Ginger called Gingerols help inhibit inflammation in the body
Cure your nausea related pregnancy, motion sickness and even hangovers with a cup hot water in which you have steeped some fresh Ginger.
Ginger fights colds, reduces fever and taste first class!

Lemongrass
Few people know that you may steep Lemongrass in hot water to relieve stress and even relax the stomach.
The fresh stalks should be squashed to release the oils and therefore the aroma.
This essential oil may relieve arthritis, pain and acts as an antiseptic.

Next time – Ask for an extra helping!
